Attempts todevelop a theistic response to Marxist and secular thought on the part of such thinkers as Jurgen Moltmann, Hohannes Metz, and Wolfhart Pannenberg are described and criticized in detail. The contradictions of the author identifies here serve to demostrate the need for a more realistic philosophical alternative. Finding this point of departure originatin in the early works of Marx and subsequently formulated by secular existentialists such as Heidegger, Sartre, adn Merleau-Ponty, he calls it the post-theistic perspective, a viable alternative to both theistic and antiheistic metaphysics.
