A near fine++ and very tight hardcover copy. First Edition. The most authoritative narrative describing the plains Indians and fur trading in the upper Missouri for the period. Original binding. Bookplate, front board and signature appear on front free end paper. Large fold out map (Excellent Condition) shows the territories of Montana, Utah, Nebraska, Missouri. Map has two very small tears, repaired professionally with paper mending tape, which does not yellow and can be removed without any damage. No bumped corners to book. Spine tips are a little soft. No cracked hinges. A very scarce copy in original binding with map, which was not issued with most copies. One of the nicest copies available.
